2012 Race Season initates at Mountwood

I remember Mountwood being a hot and nauseating heat last year and conditions were looking the same for this season.   The trails are fast, flowing and not too technical.  Comparable to north or boyce park but with a bit more climbing in my opinion.  Since there’s no time like the present, let’s get this race season started!

The expert field pushes off and wouldnt ya know.. I’m the LAST one in the single track.  Nothing I havent experienced many, many… many times before.  I’m going to roll with the turtle mentality and “plan” to pick off a few hares later in the race.  Right.  I proceed.. alone.. and focus on finding some rhythm hoping for a solid pace before the sport class starts chasing me down.   Before I know it I feel a sharp sting on my lower back and I’m quickly juggling the bike with one hand and in hot pursuit of one son of a beeyatch on or under my jersey!  Muthaaa!  I’m weaving all over the trail and cant find anything.  I do not want to stop to drop back any further or worse give the jerk or its buddies a chance to hit me again.  I later found out a few other racers got tagged as well and located a bug bite constellation on my back with five itchy bumps.  Meh!  Let the race season itchy bumps begin.  Dang it! OMBC7 Race to the Hills / Lake Hope Report

So we started this race, ya see…

and then none of us actually finished.  The results are in!  Entire Expert Womens field DNF!!  Yeah, we just didnt feel like it once we were out there.  It could happen.  Ok, ok.  There is a little more to it.  I’ll explain from my MJ view.   Ahh, I remember it well..  It all started out with the womens field getting a distance option while at the start line.  The 30 mile loop equivalent to the Expert men, or a 23 mile shorter course where we cut off a section in lap 2.  Votes for 23?  My hand = UP! UP!  UUP!!  Look at me!! 23!  Come on!  4/7 vote for 30.  GAWD!  Fine.  If I bonk I bonk.  So be it (Yeah, I could not be any further from my endurance training and body from last season.. its bad.) OMBC1 Mohican Wilderness

Ahhhh racing.  Long time no see.  The memories all came rushing back to me in the form of a stinky, sweaty, gasping, lactic acid overloadin, God have mercy, painful truth.  Ow.  I felt uprepared for this one, expected it to hurt lots, expected my friends to open a can of whoop ass, but it just still doesnt make it any easier when you roll in last place and your friends are already changed and downin a brew.  Seriously!?  Yeah, seriously.

I was intending to hit up the WVMBA1 Big Bear xc race for weeks until this past Friday when my fellow BELLAs talked me into.. no.. begged.. no, no.. tricked.. or possibly drugged me..  yeah.. into going to Mohican instead.  A course that should have the tag line, “Prepare to Climb, Bitches!”   I had my plush and oh so cushy full suspension ready to carry me all over the big bear rocks and instead I head to a climb fest with my climbing legs still on winter hiatus.  They said they missed their flight, luggage lost, I’m pretty sure they did it on purpose.  Effn slackers Continue reading

OMBC @ West Branch

09.27.09 West Branch StartLee Ann & I headed to Ravenna, Ohio this past Sunday for the OMBC West Branch race.  I love these trails!  For such a flat park and trail system it is full of roots, twisty turns and a few impressive rock gardens.  Fellow Bella, Lauren Mika, met us there and it ended up being just the three of us competing for the day.  As we lined up to race we asked to head out with the Vet men which was a great motivator at the start.. for that whole 30 seconds they were in my view.   The course consisted of (3) 9 mile laps for us, which I was slightly surprised when Ryan told us. (maybe thats right when this photo was taken. ha!)  I just havent been riding as much the last few weeks so a 27 mile race was undoubtedly going to leave a mark.   Continue reading

2009 WVMBA1 (Big Bear), OMBC2 (Vultures), MINGO3

Attention all racers!  A few nice racing options for this weekend are lined up.  The Ohio Mountain Biking Championship Series (OMBC) is having their second race of the year at Vulture’s Knob Saturday evening at 5pm.  I seriously love it there.  Lots of bridges and other obstacles to distract you along the way.  Super fun!  I recommend you take your IVY BLOCK!  If memory serves me right (which has really been failing me this week) the trails got plenty of the devil plant linger about.  You’ve been warned!

On Sunday, West Virginia Mountain Biking Association (WVMBA) season opener is this Sunday at Big Bear Lake in Bruceton, WV!   I just love West Viriginia!  Truly so wild and wonderful!   I’m pretty heart broken that I will not be in attendance at either of these.  Non-biking life has totally conflicted with this schedule and I will be staying in the Burgh this weekend.  Bummer.  Please go, have a wonderful time and let me know how it went!

A local pavement option is the Mingo Road Series has its third and final race of the season.  I hope the weather is fairly decent for Sunday and this will be the first year I actually make the whole Mingo series.  Maybe.  Predictions call for some yucky weather compared to last weekend, but I’m hoping to get my butt out there either way.  We’ll see.

Happy Weekend!
